I setup FTP according the instructions provided here with the exception of the ISA steps (I'm using port forwarding on a firewall appliance to route the public IP address/DNS name). When I FTP to the site from the internet I'm prompted for username and password as expected. The FTP User Sessions for the Default FTP Site indicates a session exists for the internet IP address and shows the correct connected username. The process seems to hang at that point without connectecting or showing the FTP directory contents.

What makes it even more strange is that once or twice the connection completed and provided a directory listing. For what it's worth RWW works without any issues. I'm at a loss as to what to do to resolve this issue.

Helpful advice appreciated.

What client do you use?

I've tried both Microsoft FTP and FileZilla. From what I've been able to gather from FileZilla FTP responses there appears to be an issue with FTP data port forwarding. I may need to tinker with the port range being forwarded by the firewall appliance.

What happens if you switch between active and passive FTP? I think the culprit may well be your Firewall.
