Thanks Eriq, the Firewall IP address was just for testing and it's form our second ADSL line so it was a fairly secure test. It may be me but I couldn't see a mention of a second policy change on ISA for 587 in the notes, I did print them out (sorry planet) so it may have gone astray. Is it a simple protocol access rule? The SMTPS one is by default on 465, can I use this but modify the port to 587? Or a rule from scratch be better? Just realised you're a very early riser, must be 07:30ish where you are! David |

Hi Eriq, I posted earlier but it seems to have disapeared. The default port for SMTPS on the ISA seems to be 465, I've set a up a rule along the lines of the original IMAP one and changed the iPhone to use 465. I also did the Firewall as well. Still no luck David. |

hi Eriq, sorry about the multiple posts but this is driving me mad. It seems to be using 993 to create a connection outward and but then trying to use 25 to set up an outward connection also. Can't make sense of this at all. David. |

David - I'm at a client site recovering a failed RAID array. Will be a while before I can get back to you on this... -Eriq |

Thanks, Dave. I just happend to be sitting checking on e-mail when this thread started coming through this morning. But when the alert that the array had failed came through, I dropped everything and have been on-site with them since. Oh, and what's quiet time? ;-) -Eriq |

Happy New Year, finally have some time to try and address this issue and what happens, it opens up another can of worms. I can happily connect and download mail over wifi and Edge. But can not send. This is to do with our SBS set up I'm convinced. But, using the same method of set up for other iPhone users, they receive the error of username and password incorrect. Very odd. I've checked memberships of groups etc, all is as it should be so I do not know what is stopping them from verifying their accounts and at least getting email to the phones. It works fine for their personal accounts with IMAP, but not for the business Exchange set up. One user of Blueyonder, which is the old cable provider called Telewest, had to use O2's own SMTP server in order to send mail from his personal account but the Gmail one is fine. Not something I'd consider for business though. If it didn't work for me it wouldn't be so odd, why one and not the others? Anyone else had this? |

oh, I'm keeping a keen eye on live coverage from 5pm in the UK on the 'Stevenote'. Might be something worth looking at in 2008. |

Hi, I thought I would update this post rather than starting a new one. We have been living with the problem of not being able to send mainly due to not having the time to sit down and figure it out and knowing proper integration was coming soon. One thing we did find out was that the log on name and email account had to be identical, you can't have log of JB and email of JBloggs@domain.com, the log on had to be changed to JBloggs. Took a few head scratches to work that out, luckily it was only a few older users who had that quirk. Even with out that send ability using our domain the phones have been excellent. We can use OWA no problem thanks to the intuative browser and the visual voicemail is excellent. The phone recognises telephone numbers in web pages, texts and email so you just press the number you see and it will dial it. No remembering and writing it down to dial, you then can add or create new contact from it. It all syncs with Outlook very easily using iTunes which takes a bit of getting used to. I could go on but not really the place. I'm mainly asking if anyone (Eriq?) has been involved in the beta testing of the new Exchange integration, and if so is there more to it than the Apple documentation seems to suggest. It is 12:30 GMT here and still version 1.1.4 is the latest one, I'm hoping Version 2 is released at 8am EST which is about 1pm here. O2 the UK carrier also has business plans in place now so we'll be migrating all the phones to that in the next few months and maybe adding some more. Fingers crossed. |

Sorry for the delayed response. You may already have the updated software and the answer to this question now, but the Exchagne ActiveSync in iPhone 2.0 is MUCH easier to configure than IMAP over SSL. I was not involved in the beta (despite numerous requests), but after a 12-hour ordeal to pick up my iPhone on July 11, I had the Exchange connectivity working in about 5 minutes (after I left the Apple store, that is). The iPhone will only sync e-mail, calendar, and contacts, and there are some quirks with the way it handles those, but for the most part, it's solid and it works. You certainly won't have to do anything fancy to get that user to connect because the name and the ID don't match. -Eriq |

hi. Thanks for the reply Eriq. Yup , went smoothly here after apple got their servers up so we could register again after the update. Only thing that seems to be annoying is the fact my email only goes back to when I started the sync via push. Still no search function on it as well. Loving the Apps though and hopefully one will be created to fill the gaps. David. |
