There are really three ways of receiving forum notifications:
  1. Receive forum notifications from all postings in a specific forum;
  2. Receive forum notifications from a thread you do not participate in;
  3. Receive forum notifications from a thread you create or participate in.
1. Receive forum notifications from all postings in a specific forum
When you choose this option you receive notifications for all postings placed in a specific forum and that can be a lot. Do only use that if you are 100% sure that you want this.

In the above screenshot you see a checkbox 'Email me when someone posts to this forum'. If you check that you will receive notifications for all future postings in that forum.

2. Receive forum notifications from a thread you do not participate in
Imagine you are reading a post and you think 'wow, this is interesting' this is definetly something I need to follow! If you want to receive notifications for this thread just have a look at the below picture.

If you check 'Email me when someone replies to this thread' you will receive notifications of future posts in that specific thread.

3. Receive forum notifications from a thread you create or participate in
If you are writing a post in a forum and you want to be informed about answers to your posting you also need to tell the system that you want to receive notifications.

Simply check 'Check this if you would like to be notified when someone replies. If you forget to check this and post your message you can still receive notifications by using the method described in "2. Receive forum notifications from a thread you do not participate in"

Remark: You will not see the 'Announce' checkbox as a normal user on this site.
