Hi,

I have had to change my email server from SMTP to POP3. I have run the wizzard but I cannot send emails without first authenticating. Where do I go to tell exchange to send authentification information prior to sending the email. I can receive emails no problem.

Thanks for any help

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Welcome to www.smallbizserver.net! I hope you like the site and that you find the answers to your questions.

Can you give me more information on what authentication your ISP reguires? Maybe you have a link to a URL of your ISP where I can read more about their demands.

Hello, the site is excellent.

It requires the username and password as authentification. In outlook/outllok express it is pretty easy to configure just tick a box!!. But as the client systems all send and receive via exchange using the pop3 connector I do not have a box to tick on each client. I just assumed that there would be a simple box within exchange to tell it to send authentifiacftion info.

I have been using SMTP until yesterday when my ststic ip address became lost! Hence the Pop3 connector wizard.

I am using a friendly company to carry out the pop3 mailboxes for me www.future-shock.net

Thanks

Jeremy

I am not 100% sure if this will work immediatly we can try. Open Exchange System manager and browse to the SBS SMTP connector. The picture below shows where you can set authentication:

Hope this helped

Hello,

Thanks for a very rapid response. Unfortunately, it has stopped them sending emails!! Very odd.

I will change it back again and see if they can regain their incoming emails.

There does not seem to be very much in the way of pop info within exchange. I think it mostly mentions SMTP for email items, is this correct? For example under the email address of a typical user it just mentions smtp.

Thanks again for any help you can give

Jeremy

Now I am confused. You wrote 'Unfortunately, it has stopped them sending emails'. Does that mean it worked? What does not work? Sending or receiving email, please be clear about this. POP is used to collect mail (receive) and smtp is used to send mail. So, if you need to authenticate when sending mail you must do as I wrote above. Maybe the ISP does not allow connections at port 25? What did you fill in for smtp server when you ran the CEICW?

Hello again,

Sorry I did not make myself clear but your recent reply has put me back on course. I did not tick the box use dns to route email" which has been causing me a problem. Your remarks about SMTP and POP made me look again at the setup.

It is all working! What can I say except thank you very much.

Is there a charge for this service or is the charge just for having to connect via remote desktop.

marvellous service.

Jeremy,

The service you get on this forum is free! If you ever run into problems you cannot fix in a timely fashion we can help you remote but that is not for free. But then again, if you struggle for 10 hours and we fix it in 2 hours count the profit

Sometimes it is better to get the pros....
