Hi all,
i have a question about adding exchange 2003 enterprise to SBS 2003 domain. The reason is limit of 16 gb store and to free up resources on sbs. I read different opinions about this and i am unsure which is correct.
-is it possible?
-how to achieve it?
-how about max 75 cals does it pass

thanks for answers and explanations

regards
Stane

If you really need more then 16Gb in the stores you need to move to Exchange Enterprise and install it on a dedicated member server. You will need as much cals as you have now for SBS on the Exchange server. This is going to be very expensive for the average SMB. You will not be anle to pass the 75 limit. If you need more then 75 you need to upgrade to full Windows 2003 server.

hi mariette and thanks for answer.
I guess the price will not be the issue as we get exchange enterprise as certified partner 4 free ;)

if i understand correctly exchange must be unistalled on sbs? i read that front/backend server configuration is unsupported.

I think you can upgrade the Exchange install to enterprise but question is do you want 80Gb stores on your SBS? Well, I would not want that. This is just too much for SBS.

Not sure about front/backend but why would that be unsupported?

well i don't intend to install exchange enterprise on sbs computer, it will be on w2k server enterprise. Can all that coexist in that way that sbsexchange is frontend and enterprise is backend server?

or on the other words: what is from your side of view best and most efficient usage of microsoft certified partner software pack in company with 40 employees?

thank
Stane

Make it as simple as possible and spend time on your customers and make money. Just upgrade the excisting Exchange to enterprise. If you have a Dual Xeon with lots of Ram (4gb) and a fast disk subsystem that should work fine.
