Did you install the other server from the SBS media?

my other server has nothing to do with the sbs server it's running separate and is a trial exchange 2003 server. i need to rebuild  the sbs server . I am doing a test to see if it's better to split up the sbs server and run 2 sepate servers a file server and a mailserver (w2k3 without sbs )

Hi Mike,
Go into the services and enable the NNTP service (which by default is disabled), set it to manual and start it. Then rerun the setup.

Ok didn't ty your  solution because i already fixed the deinstallation but now i got a different issue
explanation:
- i installed 2 virtual w2k servers on a second box (windows standart edition)
- made one the exchange server and the second one the domain controler
- when i promoted the server to the DC i made it a additional server in the domain
- on the second server (exch) i moved all the users
- now to make the sbs server a standart file server i (also have some stuff running on theire webserver mysql php i don't want to reinstall )
that i want make the server a standaart server demote the DC and deinstall exchange i figured out the problem with  - - - -excange but iff i want to remove active directory i get a message saying the server can't find the DC controller the wizard stops !!
think a am way out off the first prblem but may be i can get a liittle help fom you windows gurus on this forum ....

Hi Mike,

Are you saying you want to demote SBS? No can do. SBS will have to be the king in the forest and you can't demote it. What is your goal here? If you want a plain file server, you can't use SBS for that.

I did it one's with a 2000 box but there was no second domain controller so maybe thats my problem !
it was all in a expirimental fase so i can stop my efforts now and look for a different solution .
