I just installed SBS2003 Premium that we purchase from techsoup.  Everything is running fine except email.  We are using POP3 connectors as we have a cable modem with a dynamic IP address.  Before this we had SBS2000 and both sending and recieving worked fine.  I tried downloading the pop3 email manually but it is not distributed to the email boxes.  Whenever I try to send an email outside of our organization get the following error:

user@adelphia.net on 4/3/2005 8:30 PM
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator.

It does not matter what address I send it to it always happens.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Can you send to others inside your exchange organisation? If so it may be DNS Forwarder need setting up.
Is ISA installed on the same server?
Is exchange Service Pack 1 installed?

Could be one of many things, more info please :)

Email within the organization works fine.  ISA server is installed on the same server it is all in one.  Service pack 1 is not installed.  The POP3 mailboxes will not sync either so it leads me to believe that it is a firewall problem in ISA?  I have tried using DNS to route the email to no avail either but I need to keep the mail routed through a smarthost because our ip is dynamic and often is rejected by many mail servers.  Let me know if you need any more information.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Bryce Lowe

Hi Bryce,

Please apply SP1 for Exchange and the additional SBS hotfix and pop3 hotfix:
Smallbizserver.Net > SBS 2003 > Service packs & patches > Exchange Server 2003:
http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=134
If you send through smarthost, does it work then? (Assuming you are sending with DNS now) You have run CEICW, right?
