Heyas guys,

I have a little problem that has stumped me a little bit. They used to get through, but not now..
I have a couple people emailing to this domain, and they get messages back saying:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

John -

This specific error means that the sending server (your SBS box is teh assumption here) was unable to reach the receiving mail server (the FQDN.biz domain mail server) within the 72-hour timeout defaults of Exchange. What you can do as a test is this:

1. From the server (or from a workstation) open a command prompt.
2. type 'nslookup' (no quotes) and press Enter.
3. at the nslookup prompt, type 'set type=mx' and press enter (again, no quotes).
4. type FQDN.biz (substitute the real domain name here) and press enter.
5. nslookup will return the name/ip of the server that is responsible for mail to this domain. If you get an error here or a "server could not be found" type message, then something's wrong with the mail domain at their level, or you don't have proper DNS lookups on your server.
6. Type 'exit' and press enter to get out of nslookup.
7. Type 'telnet [addressOfMailHost] 25' and press enter (where [addressOfMailHost] is the name/ip of the server identified by nslookup)
8. You should get a "220" response from the mail server. if you don't, that's the problem.
9. type 'ehlo domain.com' and press enter, where domain.com is your e-mail domain.
10. you will get a "250" response basically saying "hell0".
11. type 'mail from: ' and press enter, where you@domain.com is your e-mail address.
12. You should get a "250" response saying "sender OK."
13. type 'rcpt to: ' and press enter, where user@domain.com is the recipient's address that is causing problems.
14. you should get a "250" response echoing the mail address
15. type quit and hit enter.

Tell us where you get an error in this process so we can help narrow down the problem spot.

You can also go to http://www.dnsreports.com and enter the domain name for the recipient and see if DNS Report shows any connectivity problems as well.

HTH...
