Hopefully someone might be able to shed some light on this urgently....

I have 2 problems

The first being the exchange Database growing past limits set, the priv1.edb is 7,599KB & priv1.stm is 43,382KB.

Here is the breakdown of what I have down so far - We are running SBS 2003 with Exchange SP2. a Large majority of our users are connected to the Exchange server in the standard setup, but I do have 5 users with POP3 Configuration.

Over the weekend I ran a Defrag on priv1.edb in the hope that it would reduce the amount of space being taken up by the priv1.stm file. I used the eseutil /d "database location" command (this was run with the database unmounted), but my regain of disk space was very minimal, I am starting to run out of disk space over all. Any thoughts on my next move? I am getting some new hard drives today to increase available space, I know this is not the ideal solution but just a bandaide fix.

My Second problem relates to the POP3 Mail boxes - it seems as though the Exchange server is scheduling to push undelivered mail to the 5 users who have not received it, it was scheduling to do this every 15mins 7 days a week, I have changed this to every hour now. I found that this action was casuing multiple deliveries of the one email.
Is there a setting where by I can set the exchange server not to push the undelivered mail multiple times?
Would the change of the scheduling (to run every hour) fix my problem of the multiple emails trying to be sent to the POP3 users mail box?

Help Please, I am in desperate need of other ideas for both of my issues.

Thank you

Cheers

Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts on how I can tackle the size of the Priv1.stm file size? It is getting out of control and I am desperately running out of disk space.

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks

Did you figure this out yet?

Hi Marina,

OK Part 1 I have only just been able to successfully defrag the Exchange database (it was about the 4th time I had done it over serveral months) and success, it has dramatically reduced the size of the priv1.stm to a size smaller than the priv1.edb file size, so I can breathe relief there.

Part 2 no I have not been able to resolve this issue of undelivered mail being sent multiple times - this issue still eludes me. By reducing the frequency of the mail being pushed has assisted but it still seems to happen.

Any ideas.

Thanks for your assistance, I must say I have found SmallBizServer site a valuable wealth of information and has assisted me many times, hence I saw no reason why not to renew my memebership. Thankyou for everyones advice & support.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

The pop3 connector has its disadvantages, like the multiple mail sending. If you can switch to SMTP, you will loose that problem.
