Hi All,

Here is the situation at hand: I have an SBS 2003 Std R2 SP2 and my client is not using Exchange server for their external email, it is only used for internal mail. All users are using Outlook 2007 and have their own POP mail box.

I recently received a call from them stating that they could not send emails as they keep bouncing back saying that they are undeliverable, etc. I changed the default mail account to the POP mail box and sent / received test mail OK. The next day, the problem was back. I changed the default mail back to the POP server and all was OK. I then shut down and restarted Outlook and the default mail had again been changed to the internal mail box.

As a workaround, I deleted the internal mail account from one user and they are now only using the POP box...no problem! Sort of...as they grow bigger, I'm sure that they will want to use features in exchnge, etc.

I have done countless searches on the Internet and even asked a colleague (who told me that it is an anomoly with Outlook 2007 anfd Exchange 2003).

Does anyone have any ideas to what is causing this???

Thanks for all your help in advance, Rob.

Hi Rob,

Did you figure this out yet?

Hi Marina,

Firstly, sorry about the delay in replying (I did receive the email about your post and was about to respond when the brown smelly stuff hit the fan). Anyway enough of that!

I unfortunately have not been able to sort it out. I have mentioned it to another SBS2003 user and he basically said that it is a problem with SBS and Microsoft was aware of it. I find it hard to believe this as otherwise, there would be more posts about it.

I am still at a loss as to what could be causing this.

Thanks again, Rob.

Hi I have the same problem but it only effects machines with Outlook 2007 and Vista Combo, Windows XP is fine.

Below is a solution I have found but I have not tested it as yet.

What do you reckon?

Regards Paul
I have two accounts configured in Outlook. One is an Exchange server and the other is a POP3 account. I have the POP3 account set as the default account but everytime I restart Outlook the Exchange server is set as the default again. How can I make the POP3 account stick as the default?

This happens when the Exchange account is hosted on a Windows Small Business Server (SBS). To work around this you can modify your registry (so on your own machine and not on the server) but since the settings affects all users of that computer you must have administrator permissions.

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\ClientSetup
Value Name: NoTransportOrder
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1

If the key doesn’t exist you can create them manually. Make sure you take extra care of using CAPITAL letters when needed as the registry value is case sensitive.

Hi Paul,

That will work, but Rob's issue is different because people are sending with the .local address instead of the .com address. This is easily solved by running the CEICW and when it is asking for the email domain name, the company email domain name should be filled in.
