Hi All,

I am currently using a document management solution called FileDirector which can archive all e-mails for storage purposes. This has an entry in the exchange event sink, which when fired copies the email (and an .xml index file) to a seperate location, which is then seperately imported into the FileDirector app.

Currently, this only captures external email (both in and out), because internal email does not go through the SMTP connector.

In order to capture internal email aswell, they have suggested I route internal email through an SMTP connector.
I am not completely sure if this can be done and if it is at all practical.

Has anyone got any comments on why not to do this and if it is okay to do, how I would go about it?

Thanks

Phil

Hi Marina,

Yes I found out how to do this. (There are a couple of ways)
There is a KB article 321721 - Entitled How to share an SMTP address space in Exchange 2000 Server or in Exchange Server 2003.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321721

It wouldnt really have any impact on mail delivery, but I chose not to do it as there is no longer a business need.

Thanks

Phil
