I have recently been playing with Intelligent Message Filter and have successfully set it up on at least 6 SBS R2 servers.

But I have 1 that seems to have an issue. Upong enabling IMF the UCEArchive folder is not created. I have manually created that folder and enable IMF on the SMTP connector but no Spam mail is being archived into this folder. The server is SBS 2003 R2 with Exchange SP2 installed. IMF v1 was never installed on this server it is only a few months old.

I was thinking about reinstalling Exchange SP2 + any updates to see if this will fix the porblem.

Any suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Regards
Craig

Hi Craig,

Are you retrieving with SMTP? As the IMF won't work when the Pop3 connector is being used to retrieve email. It doesn't make sense to reinstall Exchange SP2, certainly not if you do have the IMF tab in the Global Settings, Message Properties. Which settings did you give the gateway and the junkmail in the IMF tab?

I am using SMTP and not POP connector.

I have used the same settings as outlines in the Howto on this site execpt Under Gateway Blocking Configuration I have set the score to 7 and Under Store Junkmail Configuration I have set it to 6. Not too sure if the lower the number the more aggressiive the scanning is ie: false positives.

It is strange that I have similar hardware and nearly identical software configurations on all of the server except some do not seem to be working. I have set it up on a few servers with no problems and had a problem with one. I had a call from a client the other day with some spam problem so I set up IMF on that server and had the same problem. UceArchive folder not created and even if created manually so spam goes into that folder.

The reasoning behind re-installing SP2 was to hopefully restore back to and base config in case a windows/exchange update was the problem.

Thanks for your reply

Regards
Craig

Marina,

I had the problem on a couple of servers. On one I manually creatd the folder in the correct directory and that seemed to work. I also found that on another server the folder was automatically created when the first lot of Spam was detected.

Thanks
Regards
Craig
