Mornin gall -

Had great weekend changing over from POP3 to SMTP. Email coming in great.

Just a question on this topic.

I have noticed that if I incorrectly send an email to an address that is not in our Exchange it does NOT bounced back to sender.

In the Event Viewer we get Event ID 3005 - non delivery.

The Non Delivery Report number is

4.4.6 I found by this means " Too many hops. Looping message " ?

Does anyone know how I set up so it will bouce back to sender?

Thanks for any help.

Hi - Just thought I would share how to do this:

Expand ESM, Message Delivery.
Right click on "Message Delivery" and choose Properties.
Click on the tab "Recipient Filtering".
Enable the option "Filter Recipients who are not in the directory."

You then need to enable the Recipient Filter on the SMTP Server.

Still in ESM, Expand Admin Groups, , Server, server>, Protocols, SMTP.
Right click on SMTP Virtual Server and choose Properties.
Click on "Advanced" next to the IP address on the first tab.
With the IP address selected, choose "Edit".
Enable "Apply Recipient Filter".
Click Apply/OK until clear.
