We had consultants onsite over several days to perform a SBS migration to a new HP server. After several misfires, I asked them to restore my SBS network to where we started.

All is working as expected except e-mail. We seem to have lost 3 weeks worth of mail for everyone (40 users).

I used a backup of the mail store from ntbackup to restore the priv* files. The restored files are larger than the prior ones, so it appears the data is there.

Problem is, when a user connects to mail through Outlook or OWA, there is no mail showing.

Is there some sort of "reconnect" procedure required with this method? Creating a new Outlook profile did nothing to resolve.

Advice would be much appreciated! I'm getting desperate here. Thank you.

Before proceeding further, you should probably check the integrity of the database using ESEUTIL. If all is OK, you should be able to extract the mailboxes to PST files using EXMERGE.

A quick plug for swing migrations. This is why the Swing migration method is great. If the migration fails, you still have the old server as a fallback. I usually keep the old server for about 1 month after a migration before recommisioning it as a desktop or whatever else it might be useful for.

Thanks for the response.

We did run ESEUTIL, which claimed to have fixed some problems.

Since my post, I located the information on this website re: backup and restore of SBS 2003 which discusses what I have going on, with the two mailboxes showing in some cases, one with a red splat.

When I right click any of the boxes, I am getting a error window: Exchange System Manager: The specified module could not be found. Facility: Win32 | ID no: 8007007e | Exchange System Manager.

I am wondering if this was caused perhaps when my EXCHSRVR\BIN folder was moved by MS from the old location on C to the new location on D, where the data files have been housed for some time. I am waiting on hold for them to get back to me, but don't have a lot of faith in the process at this point. Have been on the line with them for 4 or more hours now. This is my second go-round with them today. Thought I would try this forum.

Thank you for the post.

(My consultants advised they were going to do the swing, but apparently did not even after purchasing the kit. I will plan to use that myself next time around.)
