Hi there,

I have a strange issue with receiving mail on my 2003 SBS. Outgoing email works fine. If I mail from the outside I get the following 5.5.4 error.

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
user@domainname.com
The mail server could not deliver mail to user@domainname.com. The account or domain may not exist, they may be blacklisted, or missing the proper dns entries.

I checked my MX and A host record at my ISP, I made sure I have a rule on my firewall that allows traffic on port 25. I can even telnet in on port 25 and send an email that way - no problem. I can telnet from inside the network as well. (FYI: We use a Sonicwall TZ180)

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dennis

Trying using an online tool to check if your IP has been blacklisted. Also if you telnet from external are you able to send a message to a User?

Hi there,

thanks for your reply. Turns out that I was simply paranoid. The domain name was brand new and it simply had to trickle down the DNS's. Took a while, but hey - now all is golden

Cheers,

Dennis
