I just tried the following.
Changed to static IP address with corresponding subnetmask, etc. It took.
Clicked repair and it went through everything (skipping IP address) no problem.
Changed back to DHCP and it changed back.
Still cannot repair. Gets hung on renew IP address.

Can you get at http://servername/connectcomputer from another workstation? Did you change something in the default website?

Yep, can get to it from my workstation. I do not mess with the website. We do not use it or sharepoint.

I need to think about this. At the moment I have no idea what the cause could be but we have proof that it is something on the laptop that is wrong.

OK. What time is it there (and day)? I can hang out here as long as needed. I will not be in tomorrow but will be in the next day. I just found this alert in ISA. WOndering if it is a problem.

COnfiguration Error
Catagory: Firewall

Description: ISA Server detected routes through adapter Network Connection that do not correlate with the network element to which this adapter belongs. For best practice, the address range of an ISA Server network should match the address ranges routable through the associated network adapter as defined in the routing table. Otherwise valid packets may be dropped as spoofed. (This alert may occur momentarily when you create a remote site network. You may safely ignore this message if it does not reoccur.) The address ranges in conflict are: 192.168.16.13-192.168.16.13;.

Can you do from the command prompt a 'route print' and copy the results?

It is after 5:00 here. I think I will kick off for now but will check in every few hours to see if there is anything I can do remote. I have a mechanic coming over to work on the wife's car tomorrow but maybe I can sneak in tomorrow and pick up there. If not, I will be here all day and most of the night day after tomorrow. Is it best if I just post back here when I can? BTW. Thank you very much for all the help. I have no idea what is going on here. You are great.

Thank you again.

Maybe we should schedule a remote session tomorrow? No charge for that, just want to see what is going on.

Aaron,

something to try that has helped me....have the computer in question join a different workgroup other than the one that came preinstalled.... reboot...then try to join the domain using connectcomputer...sometimes installing firewall client on the machine helps too...

Hmmm.... I did have this issue on two computers recently...one of them my own...  I had to join them manually...  Once I was already part of the domain I tried to run the connectcomputer again...guess what..it worked.. too late though, was already part of the comain.  I hate doing it that way though, it adds more time to the process, but I had a deadline.

I thought about doing that but I have a remote user that will probably never come into the office that is trying to connect his Outlook via the interent and is having problems plus I am having all sorts of problems with the bosses Treo synching. I am thinking that it is all related to something on the server.

Sounds like a security certificate issue....did you install the certificate for the server when on the local lan or when you had the laptop at home or at an external location?  Same for the Treo...

The other laptop installed certificate from an external location on the internet. The Treo's was installed via the hotsync cable from his computer on the network. I have done a hard boot, completely wiped away all data, fresh setup with new certificate a few times while troubleshooting the Treo. Completely baffled both Verizon's and Palm's support people. They both decided that it has to be a problem with the server.

For the treo....export the certificate from the laptop that has the external certificate....you can export it in the format it requires... then copy it over when sync'd.  It should install... (I have a Verizon XV6700)

Cool, I will try that out on the Treo 700 when I can steal it from the boss and have a laptop to grab the certificate from. I will let you know what happens with that. Thanks.
