Hello all ,

I found this article from Tom Schindler very interesting http://www.isaserver.org/tutorials/2004recorduserinfo.html

It basically tells you how to set up user names in the ISA Server 2004 reports , Which is fantastic.

Except in order to do so you need to disable Anonymous access through the firewall. Now I imagine if I do this in a SBS world it will mess things up because of all the different services running on it.

The question I have is - HAS ANYONE GOT USER LOGGING WORKING IN ISA REPORTS - WITHOUT THE USE OF THIRD PARTY ADD ONS!

Any help guys on this would be great.

Thanks

Sean

Hi

I don't see any problem with that. Install the firewall client also.

You dont see a problem with Tom's article?

How do I disable anoymous access in ISA , without doing that , You cannot view the usernames in the reports.

Sean,
Thanks for the post, it was obviously well intentioned, but how annoyed am I? I went through this tutorial step by step only to find it closed with selling another bloody add-on!!!

The data we're all after is being gathered by ISA server and these "tools" just extract and display this data in a meaningful way. Surely there must be a way to get ISA to generate reports in the same way. I've been doing a lot of Googleing on this topic and it seems incredible to me that there is not a relatively straight answer to this issue. Very frustrating.

Sean,

When i had ISA 2000 installed, the reports came of perfectly, with usernames and all, but since ISA 2004 I have never got it to work.

Strangely enough, the only username which shows on the report is mine !!! Which just adds to the confusion.

In relation to disabling anonymous access in ISA 2004 (with SBS 2003), you need to make sure that your SBS Internet Access rule in ISA applies only to the user group SBS Internet Users or Authenticated Users. If you allow All Users in that rule, then ISA will never ask for authentication. Thus never be passed the username.

Under normal circumstances the SBS Internet Access rule should be the only rule which allows traffic from the internal network to the external network. So all the internet users on your network, should use this rule for internet access.

This made a difference for me in that the logging feature of ISA 2004 shows the usernames and urls, but the reports do not show the usernames.

Phil
