I see you said you ran the RRAS wizard.

I do NOT see that you ran the CEICW wizard to enable VPN through the Firewall, have you run the CEICW wizard?

(Also, as an aside, why are you using the Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Server Adapter to connect to the Internet, instead of the slower Intel(R) 82562V 10/100?)

ok...back to the firmware....I upgraded the firmware and tried connecting from home and it worked. When I tried connecting externally from work (meaning that I plugged a second computer into the router that controls the internet), it did not work. I'm not sure why...

should not the internet have the fast card?

Hi E,

If it worked from home, it should be fine. How exactly did you connect from that computer that was plugged into the router?
Do you have a 1 Gb internet connection?

The linksys router connects to the internet. There are 4 ports on the router. One port is for the server. I used one of the 3 other spares to test an external connection. This would give me internet access on the computer without being logged on the server.

This current router does not support 1 gb connections which makes the Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Server Adapter to the internet useless. When we get our own router (since this is borrowed) for connecting to the internet I am going to look into a gigabyte router.

Hi E,

I think you will benefit more from a gigabit switch than from a gigabit router. What did you enter to vpn from that computer?

Hi E,

That won't work. You can't enter the public IP if you are directly connected to the router.

Hi E,

You can never use the public IP from inside the network or the router itself. Something to do with loopback I think.

I am able to use the public IP when connecting to our internal POS system using SSH Telnet. Any idea why the SSH connection with a public IP would work but not the VPN?

Also which kind of gigabit router do you recommend?

Hi E,

As said before, a gigabit router is not going to be of much benefit.

How would I be able to create the PPPoE connection with a switch? Don't I need a router to do that?

Hi E,

Yes, but I was referring to the "gigabit" part about it.
