Hi

SBS2003 Premium (with ISA 2004)

I'd like to get some parental controls running on my network but I've not yet found any consumer desktop products that work with ISA. I'm now looking at GFI Web Monitor v4. Has anyone else tried this, or does anyone have any recommendations?

Hi Robert

Blocking inappropriate websites & images, stopping downloads & setting time of day web access.

ok, you can set time of day restrictions using the schedule feature of firewall rules.

blocking inappropriate websites and images would be difficult to acheive with isa, as would stopping downloads...

I was just interested to see if you could acheive what you wanted without going for a third party app, however gfi tools do seem to be pretty good.

http://www.isaserver.org/software/ISA/Content-Security/ lists a few products - which i imagine you may have already seen.

I'd be interested to hear what you think of gfi web monitor if you go ahead with it.

GFI Web Monitor 4 now installed & I must say that it looks good. Not enough use yet to prove the web filtering, but the controls for time of day access & downloading look good. For instance, I can stop certain users from downloading MP3 files at a certain time of day. I can whitelist & blacklist sites & also restrict site categories for defined usergroups.

Scrub that recommendation. After a day, GFI Webmonitor 4 bust the Firewall & put the virtual memory through the roof. Now uninstalled.

Well as it turns out i am reading the Self Paced training kit for ISA 2004 - and a lot of what you want to do is possible, it will just be a bit of a pain to configure - and i think it will be more reactive than proactive.

I would definatley reccomend that book to you.

youll need a fair amount of machines if you want to do the labs though, or a machine powerfull enough to run 3 or more virtual pc's at once.
