Hi Guys,

I've tried to install both versions on a SBS2003.
When I tried to install ISA2006, it told me that security group "Internet Users" was missing so I created this.
When it came to configuring the SBS for Internet access, I was told that a component had failed so I had to uninstall.
I then tried to install ISA 2004 but was told the "Installer" was wrong.....

Anyone had similiar problems?

Thanks in advance
G

That experience is as expected. ISA 2006 is not compatible with any version of SBS - if you install it, it breaks the CEICW, as you found out.

You can read about which products are and are not compatible with SBS here:

http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsServer2003/sbs/techinfo/planning/chartsbs.mspx

What edition of ISA 2004 are you trying to install? The standard installer, or the one that comes on the Premium Technologies disk? You need the latter.

Well, ISA 2006 is OK for Win Server 2003, but not SBS 2003. While SBS is based on Server 2003, it is a tightly integrated configuration - that's how it delivers the advantages it does. The downside of that tight integration is that 'standard' builds of some products otherwise compatible with server 2003 won't work on SBS. The ISA 2004 build that is included on the Premium disc is customised to work with the SBS CEICW, but the standard ISA build is not.

So that you know, it seems the next version of SBS (2008) will not support ISA on the same box anyway, since it will require a one-NIC configuration and not support use as an 'edge' server. SBS 2008 will need to be placed behind a hardware firewall, or behind another box running ISA, say.
