Now a little more information.
All was working using smtp, but SPAM was becoming a major problem.
GFI Mail Essentials is installed, but not really making much impression on the amount of SPAM getting through.
System is five years old, Exchange database near 16GB limit, and Users will not delete things!!
GFI is used to monitor all email traffic. Administrator account gets all unrouteable email.
System was full (again) so Information Store dismounted. Eseutil ran on pub and priv files. - I had 36GB disk fitted exclusively for mailstore, so always enough room for this to run. :-) Happy me!
Decided to change to POP3 as ISP (Force 9) make SPAM filtering from Postini available on POP3 accounts, but not those using smtp. - This change should be a 'radio button' on the domain section of the control panel for the account.
This did not work as it should, and did not change the email delivery over correctly.. A support incident raised, and this spotted and changed by Force 9 support.. unfortunately, although the delivery method was changed, the MX records were not altered, and so the email was not being directed through the Postinin SPAM filtering platform correctly. - At least as I understand it.
I can now send an email from within the system, and it gets to my own account almost immediately..
Sending back in is taking longer, but a lot of the test messages I sent over the past three days have now appeared. I presume there will be a delay as email should now be passing through the SPAM filtering platform??
Q> Will there be a delay into the SBS system, as it polls every 15 minutes? (As set in the POP3 connector properties within Exchange).
The only other thing not working is OWA.. This did work before, but since the changeover has stopped.
NOTE: It works from within the domain, but not externally.
A colleague thinks this is perhaps a firewall issue?? Grisoft reports that the port is there, but no joy when trying to use the service.
Thanks for help.
Regards,
Phil Partridge.
