I'm looking after a SBS for a small company owned by my father-in-law, however my day job is in desktop support , so I'm no exchange guru by any stretch of the imagination.

The server itself is running Windows 2000 SP4, with Exchange 2000 - all installed and configured by Dell a few years ago.

With the introduction of new symbian company mobiles, I have been asked to set them up to send & receive email.  I figured the best way to achieve this would be using IMAP.

The IMAP4 protocol itself seems to already be enabled on the server, so all I have done is forward the port (143) on the router to the server's internal IP.

To test, I set up an account on my own Outlook Express client, which appeared to connect successfully and start downloading the folder list.  However, after a few moments it stopped and I got the standard error Outlook Express gives saying the IMAP server hasn't responded for 60 seconds and would I like to Wait or Stop.

I can't figure out why it would do this?  It connects ok, then gives up after a few moments.

Any ideas?

Hi Marc,

Please be aware that SBS 2000 is running out of support soon (or maybe already has). It is really time to upgrade to SBS 2003 which has a lot of nice features. I really don't know if SBS 2000 is even capable of supporting mobiles, SBS 2003 is.
