..ohh - and if you go online and use the key from the upgrade version - you will be informed that this key only works for an upgrade done from within e.g. WINXP..

Henri
I have twice run the clean install using the partner DVD as detailed in my earlier post (
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5932
). I can confirm that the procedure works well.

But isn't that popup window normal for any clean install? And if you then go and activate your copy of windows vista by internet does that not work? That sounds like a clean install to me!

I can confirm what Nic said.
Henri ~ Most MS products require you to activate in 30 days or it dies. This is not something new to Vista.

I have tried that from the Partner DVD VISTA Buisness version and from a VISTA Ultimate Upgrade retail version. It works - until after a little while - and a polite little reminder pops up in the lower right hand taskbar - informing you that you have now only e.g. 28 days left to register your version before it will be rendered unusable.
All versions of Vista require activation, upgrade or not.

Oups - Stan - don't think I don't know about the 30 day grace period ;-) - this is why I added my comment in the succeeding post - referring to that when you try to enter the key within this grace period you are being advised that the key only works when doing an upgrade from within e.g. WINXP..
Nick - thank you for your reminder - I did not check your blog before now - about that procedure :-) Very nice - clean install indeed..

Sorry Henri, I was referring to my previous post in this thread about the procedure. I didn't mean to imply that I had written the blog, only that it worked.

Stan and Nick,
That' alright - thanks - both - for your input regarding this - I'm just pleased to find out that it is indeed possible to do a boot-install from an Upgrade VISTA version

Here is another method of getting a clean install of Vista with the upgrade DVD. This method does not require you to install Vista twice ~
