As a MS certified partner we receive cd's from our MSDN to use in our company. A couple of months ago we received Windows Vista, only the enterprise edition. I waited on the official customer release to put some of our pc's on Vista.

So last week I put 3 pc's on, vista, they all work perfect. I didn't have to give a serial number, because it's the enterprise edition. I treid to activate my copy, but I am getting this error: error code 0x8007232B, DNS name does not exist.

So I searched google, and it seems many people have problems activating the enterprise edition. Seems like the only solution is to re-enter the key....but I don't have a key! On the MSDN I only have keys for the business ed, ultimate ed, but not for the enterprise edition. It seems like I need a MAK key. So I called MS to ask for a key .... here comes the answer....

"We are very sorry to tell you, but MS made a mistake, none of the MSDN subscibers are entitled to the enterprise edition. I cannot give you a key .... .
- So what can I do about this?
You will have to reinstall the machine with MS vista business ed.... .
- Why can't I donwgrade to the business edition, do I really have to format and reinstall again?
yes, we are very sorry"

ok, this is a BIG mistake from MS. Why do they send us enterprise edition when we can't use it??? There must be alot of people who already installed that enterprise edition ... Is there another solution for this problem?

Foung this info on the technet plus download site:

Announcements Posted: Windows Vista Enterprise
Windows Vista Enterprise is now available. The product key available here for Windows Vista Enterprise can be used for 10 activations. Unlike retail product keys which do not increment when reactivating the same computer, this multiple activation key (MAK) will increment with each and every activation. Windows Vista Enterprise may be used for 30 days before activation is required.

Vista Enterprise does not ask for a product key during installation because it is configured to use Key Management Service (KMS) by default. You must change the product key to the MAK available from the product key section here by using the Change Product Key option in Control Panel. For more information please visit Windows Vista Volume Activation.

So, maybe you just have to go into the control panel and change the product key to the key shipped with the cd's?

Hope this helps.
kind regards,

thx for the tip!
They finally provided us with a MAK key.
It looks like they put it there recently because it wasn't on the msdn subscriber page before.
