"To join the small business server domain, you must be a member of the local Administrators security group on this computer"

Vista Business client
My user on the vista machine, has all rights.

If you run IE as an administrator, then you can go ahead with the setup.
But i don't know if this is the right way ??

Hi, Mariette,

As mentioned, i followed the KB article, but no succes.
The only thing i didn't do was the part with user profile wmi provider, because it is a blanc vista install and i don't have to transfer documents and settings.

Regards,
Jo

You have to be administrator in Vista to join it in your SBS domain. You also have to note that by default, administrators are still running processes under a security context that's why they still see the UAC anytime an increased privilege is required to run a process/application

I have the same problem as the OP. I'm trying to get a Vista client to join a SBS 2003 SP2 network. When I try and run the mentioned kb update it stops with a message saying the required components are already installed, so I assume SP2 already contains this update. Also, the vista machine is an administator and part of the admin security group, yet it still give the error message saying you must be an administrator. Could this be a SP2 issue?

Dear Frends,

I installed SBS2003SP1-KB926505-X86-ENU on Machine and wen all the vista joins the server there is no error message and everything is fine.... also you have to install SP 2 first, becoz SP2 has al new updates along with SBS Client for vista, and i have already installed SP2, everything is running fine, the only problem that i face was, that some of the services stopped responding Like ISA Etc.... but i restarted the servcies and everything is normal till now ....

and the place from where i downloaded the update i wil just type the link below :

Jo - I also had this problem - user ID on the server was in mixed case - e.g. JohnS - but using this as the logon id on the Vista client caused the "To join the small business server domain, you must be a member of the local Administrators security group on this computer" error previously described; however, changing the client logon id to lower case - e.g. johns - allowed logon/setup to work OK.
Hope this helps!
