I haven't really got into Vista yet, and I am still advising customers to stick to XP.
However, it's getting harder to get workstations with XP.

I have a couple of customers who have supplied their own laptops for networks, which include Vista, and I am not sure whether to go with them or to insist on upgrading them to XP Pro.

I feel it's far too early to adopt Vista yet, though I will start looking into it soon (I was going to upgrade my laptop, but the installation report told me that my 15GB of free space was not enough...)

Just interested in hearing your thoughts...

Thanks

Vista works fine with SBS, what's the problem.

The operating system is actually very stable - much more so than XP.

Its a great improvement of previous versions of Windows and downgrading machines that come with the OS is frankly insane.

The problem with this is that a lot of applications have not been ported to Windows Vista...yet

With a couple caveats Vista has been pretty good for my couple of clients with SBS. Get the SBS patch for Vista and Office 2007, it is an "Automatic Update" and does help with a few small items. My only real ongoing problem is print issues, but if you test and have an easy way around those Vista works great on SBS.

Initially we kept Vista to just our own SBS network as we had quite a few issues with our AV, Kaspersky.

Have subsequently installed Vista to a couple of customer sites with SBS to mixed results.  We found results depend on the applications the customer needs and hardware they are using.  The only thing we haven' been able to overcome so far is end user reluctance to accept a new OS, even when they've specified it themselves.

We have installed 6 HP DC5700 Vista PCs. Initially we kept Vista but gradually they are being reverted to XP again. We found Vista on the Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz 2Gb Ram HPs so slow. The networking was so slow as well. Putting back XP has released the speed within.

I broke the golden rule of not waiting for the first service pack and have paid the price!
