So I deployed my first Vista network 2 weekends ago.  Overall...ended up going not too badly.  Used 15x HP dc7800 ultra small form factor machines, Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2 gigs of RAM.  4x IBM Thinkpad T61, Core 2 Duo, 4 gigs of RAM, 7,200rpm drives.  Brand new SBS2K3 r2 ML350 G5 server with 6x 15k rpm SAS drives, 4 gigs of RAM.  20x nodes.

Only Vista related drawback I encountered was....clients not fond of print shares from the server.  Ended up connecting each workstation directly to the printers...via IP.  Sort of a bummer...prefer to have the server do the printing.

However...I just though I'd share an experience I ran into.  One of the paralegals at the firm...on the Monday following the weekend I installed it...installed AIM on her PC.  So when I sat down that afternoon to install a few more things....I saw her network connection icon showing a red X.  And some errors about network list service failing, a server connection failure error if I hovered the curser over the LAN connection icon in the systray, I couldn't modify network properties if I went it..sort of locked up explorer.  Couldn't browse network places, couldn't browse to server shares via start run.  Yet..she was connected to the internet, and her mapped drives to the server were functional.  Was weird.

Googled around..and stumbled upon a thread at Microsofts TechNet forums....

I had UAC disabled on the workstations.  She installed AIM..after a reboot it tanks the network list service..so the fix is to uninstall AIM, (she already had 6.5.5.2...the latest), reboot, re-enable UAC, reboot, install AIM again,reboot..and it should be good.  I haven't gone back to disable UAC again...but it appears you just have to install AIM with UAC enabled.  Some relationship betwee that and UAC is wonky.

Not that I'm a fan of the adware ridden AIM...but some of us have to deal with clients that use it, just thought I'd post the tip here.
