Hi,

I have a vista client with a slight problem. whenever the user tries to print, there are no printers displayed in the control panel / printers diaglog box. checking the services the print spooler service is stopped. It's set to auto restart and when manually started the printers are displayed. However, if I try to select one then I get another error message and upon checking the service, the print spooler service is stopped yet again.

Any ideas would be most welcome

Hi

Is UAC enabled? If not try enabling it and reboot.

Just a shot in the wild here...

I've had this from time to time... 10 Vista clients, SBS 2003 R2, with 4 networked printers (3 x OCE plotters and 1 Dell laser).

However, with my clients, there are no printers displayed but when looking in Services, the Print Spooler is still running. Doing a restart of the Print Spooler cures the problem. I've only seen it on 2 out of 10 clients.

However, I suspect that this is a driver issue that is crashing the Print Spooler. The OCE plotters don't have Vista drivers, but they are working OK with the XP ones. It may be that occasionally one of the OCE drivers is causing the print spooler to crash.
