Hi all

I've been running on Vista Business for one week now. I started syncing my network folder which is about 6GB. It's been syncing now about 30 hours and still isnt' ready. Adsl line speed is 7MB and working fine. Otherwise laptop is working _quite_ well.

Any found out similar thing? Any solutions?

known issue. Vista is horrendously slow. Vista uses 1500 packets to initiate a transfer if done through the gui instead of about 10. MS did this to mess with samba. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to force vista to not use smb2(the let's mess with samba version) and default back to the previous version.

You can listen to the episode and donwload the mp3 here.

The section of interest about vista's smb2 starts at 33 minutes and goes until about 38 minutes.

I just realizaed that I have NetOp Remote control host installed on Server and Guest on my pc - and there is also that file sync possibility. Do you think that should be better solution?

That 6GB file is enormous!! Maybe you should think up a different stragedy for it.

Any ways, on Vista,

uncheck the IPV6 box on the NIC Properties.

Right mouse click on a command prompt box and select Run as Administrator

Enter these commands at the command prompt ~

netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled
netsh interface teredo set state disable

reboot. see if it copies across a network a little faster.

I've been playing around with Vista SP1 Release Candidate 1. It is much faster copying files on a network. It can copy a 1gb file across the network in about 70 sec. My XP systems take about 75 sec for same file. Nothing scientific about that. Just casual observations. The release date of the RM SP1 is supposed ot be about mid Feb.
