Ive got some Vista Business licenses and want to upgrade one of our xp machines to try it out.

I tried sticking the cd in and going through the upgrade process but it gets to the very end and then tells me 'Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation.'

I had ran the compatability wizard and fixed any driver/device/program issues.

So im just wondering if it is even possible upgrade in this way, or do I have to do a clean install as per a new machine and then go through the whole connectcomputer process?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

My experiance has been that you need to take the XP PC off the domain and put it in a worgroup before you start the upgrade. It may not solve your current issue, but you should do it anyway

I would not upgrade a machine at all. backup any data not on the server and install from scratch.

Looks like there may be a driver issue, have you tried to update all the drivers before doing the install?
