We have a client that asked for password policies to be enabled across their SBS2003 domain. Once they kicked in, all XP Pro users were prompted to change their passwords which had to be over 7 characters, meet complexity requirements and not be one of twelve previous passwords. They all did this ok.

One EU has Vista Business installed on a laptop and is unable to change his domain password. Like the XP boxes, it told him at logon that his password had expired but whenever he tries to change it, it says "Invalid Username and/or Password".

I have installed all available updates to the SBS box, including the Vista compatibility patch. Also installed SP1 to the vista box. Still no luck!

I know this is not an issue with the complexity requirements, etc as I've been to the client site myself and tried this with lengthy, completely random passwords.

Any ideas????

Thanks,

Mike.

Have you tried to reset his password to one that meets the requirements from within AD?

Yes, resetting the pasword from the Users screen of Server Management allows me to change the password, it just cannot be done from the Vista box.

Hi Michael,

Check the event logs of that Vista machine. Run the gpupdate/force on it and check again.
