Right im new to all this so be gentle with me.

I have a sbs 2003 server and I have domain joined the vista box to it. I have the windows firewall enabled in sbs and in vista.

When I go to the vista firewall by going to windows firewall advanced security I noticed that I have 3 different firewall options Domain, Public and Private.

WHat do I do with these do I turn off the private and public as the vista box is on the domain.

I am also having problems with getting onto the internet with the vista box as it says im connected locally and to the internet but will not go to any sites.

Just need some pointers really on what i need to enabled or disable etc.

Thanks in advance.

for Vista to work properly with SBS you need the 'RipCurl' patches, http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2007/02/09/sbs-vista-client-update-ripcurl-now-available.aspx

domain vs public vs private settings for the firewall apply as Vista detects the variety of possible network connections, you should not need to adjust them and as it seems you are talking about a domain joined desktop it is expected that the 'domain' profile will be in use (the others may come into use, at times, depends).

RE: Vista getting out to internet. A basic description of your setup, 1/2 NICs, with/out firewall device, existence/not of ISA, would help, as may the IPConfig/all of both the server and workstation.

Hi Matt,

The Windows Firewall Service on the SBS should be set to Disabled and should not be running at all. You are missing WINS on the SBS nic, and I am wondering how you have set the DHCP server as normally the first 10 IP's are excluded from being handed out.
