Hello all,

We are running SBS 2003 SP2 with several XP Pro SP2 workstations just fine.  We purchased 1 Vista computer just to test compatibility with our hardware and software.  I was able to successfully connect the new Vista computer to the domain and the user is running programs just fine on the computer.

The only glitch I have noticed is that I can not do an "offer remote assistance" from the server to the Vista PC.  I receive this error message:

"Automation server can't create object"

I can connect directly to the computer however I would also like to be able to do an offer remote assistance as sometimes I need to interact with the user on their workstation.

Perhaps someone has come across this already and might have a solution.

Thank you very much in advance!
Tammy

Hi Tammy,

I have had nothing but headaches and pains trying to get remote assistance to work with Vista. You might be able to get it to work server to Vista~or not. You might be able to get it to work XP to Vista~or not. You might be able to get it to work with Vista to Vista~or not.

I gave up. I am currently using GoToAssist. Right now it is considered a beta and it is free. So far I have been able to connect to anything from anywhere. Works just like Microsoft’s Easy Assist.

Hi Tammy,

  • Remote assistance only works Vista-to-Vista or from Vista to XP/2003 clients.  Vista clients cannot request assistance from users on XP or 2003 machines.  Use Remote Desktop instead for these scenarios.

We have joined the branch office to our SBS 2003 Headquarters and have the same user experience on the branch office as we have on our local  network at the Headquarters. Want to know how? Thank you Stan and Marina for your input on this.  Just more fun with Vista!
