Hi Steven,

The forwarders should point to the DNS numbers of the ISP of the internet connection, so that can be different from the SBS DNS forwarders. In no case should there be an internal IP listed in tab Forwarders.
Can you find the event ID's of those WIN32 errors? And what are the system log errors about?

Hi,

when you install vista on a Client you probably create a local administrator called adminloc. You even made sure ist ist a member of the local administrators.

You will not be able to join Vista to the SBS network.

That works only with the administrator, Vista created when it installed itself. You have to activate that account first via System Tools (Systemsteuerung)> Administrative Tools > Local Useres and Accounts. Vista Ultimate installed the usual way via ConnectComputer.

Do not try to install anything but Outlook via the SBS ! You will be told that even this is not compatible, but it works.

Hi,

prepare to spent many hours till the Vista client works. Some programs work before applying service pack 1 and do not after updating.

Vista disables the right to write in the program folder, so some of the install routines fail. You have to undo the write protection.

I think, Vista is not ready for business use. We tried to use Vista Ultimate. May be we should open a new topic an ship it once a week to Microsoft. After all the forum has 21.000 users, so all possible problems should pop up.

Last Post for today

after installing the recommended upgrades and de installing the vista client "ConnectComputer" works. Not working is the Panda Enterprise Virus Scanner, which worked with Vista Business. So more work for next weekend.

The SBS and the client were updated before I tried to integrate the client in the SBS network. Why MS does not update everything fits to the no care attitude of big companies.

Good Morning,

now after Service Pack 1 for Vista and lots of Updates on the SBS and on Vista Businesss 32, i tried to connect a second Vista client to my SBS 2003.

Needless to say, the instable normal procedure ( my-sbs/connectcomputer) does not work. Having little time, I just added the Vista box via System / Geräte-Manager to the sbs domain. About 30 minutes later, the Vista box installed itself as it should in the first place. I did renew my changes to the SBS as soon as a did them, but the AD on SBS seems to be extremly slow.

Expect a full working day to install Vista. It will not Install SP1 unless you do NOT install KB 947562 via automatic upgrade. You will get an Error 8024200D follow the procedures and then install KB947562.

After you have installed Office, the Eula pops up everytime you open Word, Excel etc. Remedy is KB884202.

Once you have fixed all the problems of this "Homeland Securiy" inspired Operating System, it seems to run well. Some of the problems of XP have been fixed, the explorer still shows all of C: first. MS still believes of mixing operatings systems with apllications and data.  As a former Multics user some 40 years ago this seems very unprofessional to me.

Vista and Blue Screen

Once a day we get a Blue Screen on Vista Business SP1. It first disconnects the Internet and then goes blue claiming the fltmgr.sys is the cause.

We try to use automatic dialing on this machine, using a TAPI for Vista Business from Deutsche Telecom, which creates a second network to access the telephone-switch. The virtual NIC is the usb connector.

Vista is certainly not ready for production use. It wastes too much time and I would like to hear, what others have to say to this.

Could we start a complains list and mail it to Microsoft ?

After all we are over 22.000 paying customers and MS certainly has some interest to keep us on board.

Peter,

You asked for other opinions. I use Vista Business at home (Vista64) and at the office and for my clients. I have one client with around 50 domain notebooks and 40 non-domain notebooks all running Vista Business with no problems whatsoever. I also produce several software applications for them (client/server database apps running locally over the LAN and also over the Internet). This software is developed with Delphi version 5 which is 10 years old and originally released for use with Windows 98. Everything works fine on Vista. It takes about 20 minutes to join a new Vista Business client to their domain and that includes manually setting up printers and the ISA Firewall client.

So, I 'm very happy with Vista, and more importantly, so are my customers.

Hallo Tony,

thanks for your reply.

That is good news, because I do not want to go back to XP and I notice that every Vista upgrade helps. The other Vista box runs well now, after we changed the TV Cards from Hauppauge to Terratec.

The problems with the blue screen might come from the Tapi software, because if it is not enabled the box is now stable. But you have to type the phone numbers by hand. I am talking about it with Deutsche Telecom.

Best regards

Peter
