FYI... Dell is claiming a new MS security patch is wreaking havoc.

A client of mine came in today to find their server (PowerEdge 2800) stuck at "NVRAM type mismatch", which is a PERC RAID adapter error I have seen before. I had them call Dell because it is usually easy to fix, but nice to see what is on the screen while you troubleshoot it. They just called me back (4 hours later) and they are in trouble.

Dell corrected the NVRAM mismatch problem and they got past the BIOS issue, but then the OS wouldn't boot. They were getting some boot errors from Windows. They claim that a new MS security patch is causing major problems and they are flooded with related calls.

Now my client has been on the phone with Microsoft for several hours and is not getting anywhere. They have tried to install Windows XP Pro on the d: partition to do some recovery, but even that is failing. Now Microsoft is claiming this is probably some kind of hardware failure.

Anyway, it may be a simple hardware failure, but I wanted to relay Dell's claim of a security patch that is creating this problem. They say they have not identified which patch it is, but it is new. Please let me know if any of you have seen this issue.

Thank you!
