Hi,

I'm trying to get NTBackup to work with the Volume Shadow Copy service.

Locally this works like a charm, but when i try to backup data from a shared folder (vss is enabled on the server hosting the share), i still get these errors on open files:

Warning: Unable to open "\\host\share\file" - skipped.
Reason: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

any help would be greatly appreciated..

I don't think this is supported what you are trying to do. If you need to backup files from another server I suggest you schedule a backup on that server and include the bkf file in your daily SBS backup.

I'm having a similar problem with the local drives. Backup will start VSS on Drive c:, but many files will fail with the following error:

Warning: Unable to open "C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\store.fcl" - skipped.
Reason: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

This happens for cookies, temp files, SharePoint databases and Exchange databases.

Shouldn't Volume Shadow Copy copy these files even if they are open by another application?

Hi Dave,

Is that with using the SBS Backup?
