I'm trying to use NTBackup on SBS 2003 Premium to backup the contents (currently ~20GB in size) of the server to a Lacie Ethernet Mini Disk (320GB - not mapped) over the network. Using the Backup wizard and the relevant guide on here, last night I scheduled the server to perform a backup every night at 11pm to \\Edmini\share. I locked the computer using the account that created the backup schedule and left it overnight to perform the backup. Unfortunately, this morning I came in to discover that the backup had failed because "The operation was not performed because the specified media cannot be found." When I checked \\Edmini\share, however, a folder called "Backup Files" had been created, which suggests to me that the server could in fact find the drive but was unable to perform the backup.

In case it was a problem with the server disconnecting from the drive after a while or a failure of the scheduled backup process, I tried to carry out the backup using the Backup Now option in Server Management. Despite being able to access the drive through My Network Places during the backup process, the backup program window shut straightaway and the log reported the same error as above.

I've tried mapping the drive and ensuring that permissions are set to full control but this seems to make no difference. Any advice?

Thanks
Lewis

Hi Lewis,

Any reason why you don't connect that drive to the server directly? Setting permissions to full control, but to whom??
