I just purchased a Dell 2950 server with an RD1000 system and 3 RD1000 cartridges.  I've loaded the Yosemite software that came with it and am now trying to determine the best way to set-up the backups.  My server has about 20Gb that needs to be backed up.  I assume I'll set it up for incremental backup with a full once a week.  I've used tapes in rotation before but never a hard-drive cartridge.  Do I need to buy a lot more RD1000 cartridges for the rotation or is there a way to share the 3 RD1000 cartridges?

I have the same question : Dell PET105 running Ypsemite Backup 8.10 with a RD 1000 and 3 cassettes, trying to use one cassette shared for daily, the second shared for weekly, and the third shared for monthly...

Can anyone help ?

Hi guys,

Any reason why you won't use the SBS Backup tool? Incremental backups is really not very useful.

Steve, no one has come forward with an answer yet. It should be possible. I might purchase another RD1000 disk and use the Simple-4 Rotation plan on page 103 of the manual.

I have no idea what the SBS Backup tool is or whether it will work with the three RD-1000's.

Hi Brian,

Did you never had a look at the To Do list in Server Management?

Brian
You need to "share out" the RD1000 drive..with full read/right permissions to the administrator and system.  The integrated SBS backup tool doesn't work with certain types of removable disks.  You then backup to the RD1000s UNC path...such as \\servername\vault

Works very well...I love those drives...fast and durable.
