Hi,
as the topic suggests I am looking for an 'easy' way to backup the entire image of our sbs to a decent spec spare PC i could use as a temporary server - does anyone have any ideas on how I would go about this? I am tempted to try an xcopy command or using somthing like casperXP which i have used previsouly for successful PC mirroring.

The server doesnt have any raid function and we are looking to upgrade but not until later in the year/early 2009 - Currently the only backup is what sbs spits out to an onsite USB hd drive (not ideal i know!) - I also periodically backup shares and users docs folders to a seperate USB hdd.

What i want to achieve is to have the 'spare' server at ready so that in the event of failure it would be a case of just switiching it on so that everything remains exactly as is on the current server - I understand that this probably can't be setup to work as a 'live' mirror and that i will probably have to repeat the 'mirror' process a couple of times p.w

On the other hand is there an easy way to export the entire settings of our server? e.g user accounts, shares, mailboxes etc etc - this way i could build a seperate server and just import or migrate periodically?

Really unsure where to turn with this but I know that our current setup is a nightmare waiting to happen -

any help appreciated!

Hi Rich,

If you are using SBS Backup, it will backup everything that you need and it can be used to restore a complete server.
