Hello ,

mentioned server with 2x 73gb scsi drives has run out of space and now we are solving the extension of current storage configuration on his server. Buying other 2x 146gb scsi drives will cost 1100$, so we are trying to find something cheaper. I came up with idea of using pci sata controller with sata drives installed, but since hp does not manufacture pci sata controllers I am affraid of buying one since I don't have personal experience with this. So my question is,can somebody recommend me some particular pci sata controller that works flawlessly with HP ML150G2 server? The only problem is that since it is scsi model, there are no positions for sata drives so we have to place them somewhere in case.

Thank you

PS: If somebody has solution that costs less than 1100$ I will be looking forward to hear it.

I found out that plastic rails for scsi drives from ml150 g1 are fitting into g2 too(in case we would buy scsi drives directly from seagate, not hp spare), but i have only one pair, so it seems that there is no other choice than to buy those 146's. Just to let you know.

Is ebay an option in your location?

You should be able to pick up compatible drive rails or caddies fairly easily.

I've had a lot of SCSI drives off ebay with very few problems. I normally stick to buying retail Seagate drives which normally still have a decent amount of warranty remaining. I then run Seagate's diagnostics to check for any problems; if there's a problem I either return the drive to the vendor or get a warranty replacement from Seagate for the cost of the return postage. If you request the drive serial number from the seller before purchase you can check the warranty status on the Seagate site and avoid OEM drives.
