Posted By Terry Fisher on 11/12/2007 11:04 PM Hello,
I understand that SBS 2008 will not support ISA Firewall; but, I have heard that it is still wise to have two NICs on the SBS box.
Is there an article that explains installing SBS when you have two NICs and a hardware Firewall, but NO ISA?
If there is no article, can you give me a brief overview of how to set this up?
Thanks,

Are you asking about SBS 2008/Cougar or SBS 2003? For 2003, you can take the information from the Single NIC with a Hardware Firewall doc to learn how to properly configure the external firewall, then use the two NIC with ISA article and ignore the ISA-specific bits to learn how to configure SBS. Basically, you'll set the external IP of the SBS box to be on the internal IP address range of the hardware firewall and have the internal NIC of the SBS box in a different private address range. You'll forward the necessary ports in the firewall to the external IP of the SBS and then run the Connect to the Internet wizard to configure access to the services from the external NIC.
If you're talking about 2008, it will only support a single NIC, so there will be no ISA on the SBS box at that point. you will basically configure the network according to the Single NIC with a hardware firewall box, or the updated version when it comes out.
Unless you plan to put an ISA server on the edge of the network, it will be more important than ever to put a business-class firewall on the edge of the network. We'll have updated information here on the site when the new product releases.
HTH...
