Learning from bitter experience, I now discover that the update to WSUS3 on SBS2003 needs very special attention.
It seems from my experience just running the update on SBS2003 that there is no choice in the actions that this update does, in that it removes the SQL MSDE engine that everything in SBS 2003 relies on! Thanks Microsoft! This update does not seem to be able to check you are running SBS2003, and warn you about the dire consequences!
So, now I find out you must follow the Technet article "Installing Windows Server Update Services 3.0 on Windows Small Business Server 2003"
(The article has no number, but is currently here: http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServerSolutions/SBS/en/library/de2e9436-f23f-47f0-b840-e8b3e72182751033.mspx?mfr=true )
Sadly at the moment I have not been able to backtrack yet, but it looks like a major pain, as everything from the backups to SharePoint are moaning about not finding their databases!
If anyone has information how to get these back working easily that would be gratefully received.
I have also placed this in the SBS2003 forum, as it is likely people working on SBS2003 won't see this in the SBS2008 forum.
