OK, so I know this post: http://www.smallbizserver.net/Forums/tabid/53/forumid/57/tpage/1/view/topic/postid/52124/Default.aspx#52124 starts to address the issue, but this just isn't quite the same. I have a client with this issue, and easily replicated the issue on my own network. My Documents syncs for Offline Usage, but for some reason I can use Explorer to just search via the "Search" box in the top-right corner of Explorer. When I browse a public share (for our example, "public") I can search, but only for names of files and folders, unless I choose advanced and opt to search in non-indexed files. This is typically fine. Let's say there is one folder under "public" called "active" that I want to sync on my laptop, so I right-click it and make it available offline. Works perfectly. Let's say there is a document in there call "file". If use Explorer and am at the "public" level and search for the word "file" it files "file", but if I drill down the to the "active" folder and search for the word "file" there are no results. In fact, I can get results for nothing at all. I have to enable searching inside non-indexed files, then I get the result. I pop right back up to the parent folder, which isn't set for offline use, but has the "active" offline folder under it, and I can search and get results for files and folders under the offline "active" folder. This problem happens whether or not I am actually online or offline. It is just a search problem.

Perhaps the answer is indexing the public share on the server, which would allow for searching inside files as well, but that still doesn't really correct the problem. Has anyone else seen this? I have a client who really utilizes the search features and his "active" folder is critical for offline usage. He doesn't want it in "My Documents" because other users on the network need visibility to it. He has a lot in there and doesn't like to search the parent folder because he gets tons of results that are outside his active folder. Extremely frustrating problem.

Thoughts?

This continues to be a huge pain for me. Can anyone else replicate the issue? I have had no responses, but I was hoping someone might have some insight. I am pretty lost on this one.

Hi Jamison,

Did you figure this out yet?

No, we never did figure this out. This is a huge problem for us and for this client. It continues to be. We can replicate the issue anywhere with Vista SP1. Just select a shared folder on a server and make it available offline, then try to search in that folder and it won't work anymore. Aargh.
