hi,

this update is now failing to install on a number of systems. Anyone have any advice on why it's not installing as expected?

regards

G'day Barry,

need a little more info.

Is it failing in the same way on all systems? (same error message? if so what is the error message?)

From the general statement 'it failed' the best I can do is ask whether you are applying the update manually, or through MU/WU, or under the control of WSUS? Some people who have had problems using the more automated methods have had success by manually downloading the patch and installing by similar method.

I think the primary reported reason for failure is that an earlier update had not been applied, but can't remember the details. Possibly searching on the error message and KB number will reveal this.

Hi Mick,

sorry for the lack of clarity.

the update is showing up in the list of installed updates available. I select the apply update and let it go about its business. it doesn't actually fail with an error message it just tries to apply the update then comes up with a dialog box with wording to the effect that the update failed to installed.

It is subsequently immediately available for download/install again.

I'll go and have a look to see if there's been any comments online about installing manually.

thanks again

Check the WindowsUpdate.log file on your C:\WINDOWS directory to find out what is causing the issue

To install manually, just download the file from here
