Backup and restoring files from sharepoint via xcopy

Sharepoint is cool! Sharepoint is a great solution for many companies who want to manage documents via a web interface. Imagine this, you have a company with 20 clients, 10 clients love sharepoint (the good ones), the other 10 hate the web interface (the "i'm not ready to change ones"). What would you do? Let's mix those! Whenever a user saves a document in a mapped drive it automatically appears in the companyweb! Everybody is happy then. The only drawback at the moment is that if an event occurs that a user deleted a document, you have to restore the whole sql database. I have my way for backing up and restoring files from Sharepoint server. You'll see that it's really easy! This is not really documented by Microsoft so bare me if you see a glitch. The trick to get the companywebsite and sub folders when you don't see it, is to open up the companywebsite browse a while, upload, download open documents. The computer will then 'know' what the companyweb is.

For this procedure you would normally use a third party solution but this article describes a method without using a third party backup solution. I use this procedure on all my SBS installations.

SBS 2003 with SP1 integrated media for Dutch, Hebrew, Arabic and Russian
By Marina Roos :: 1 Comments :: :: Service Packs, SBS 2003, Backup and restore, Public articles
Because of a bug you won't be able to repair a Dutch, Hebrew, Arabic or Russian SBS 2003 version with non-SP1 integrated media. Unfortunately you can't create a slipstreamed CD yourself, so you will have to contact your local MS office to obtain new media.
